‘Six Moral Tales’ On Temptation And Desire Set For Screens At The Cinematheque

The GOODS from The Cinematheque

Vancouver, BC | Starting this Friday, the Cinematheque presents Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales (Six contes moraux), an extraordinary cycle of films made between 1962 and 1972 that focus on sexual temptation and the rationalization of desire.

Perhaps no other filmmaker has mined the interior moral life with more success — and more wit, irony, and intelligence — than French writer-director Eric Rohmer (1920-2010). His sublime cinema navigates the gaps that exist between our thoughts, our feelings, and our actions.

The series opens on Friday March 31 with screenings of The Bakery Girl of Monceau, Suzanne’s Career, and My Night at Maud’s. Doors open at 6pm, and there will be a special introduction by Robert Ingram, co-editor of the French Film Directors Series. Get screening times and tickets here.

This presentation of Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales is the first program in an ongoing Rohmer retrospective at The Cinematheque in 2017.
