About Shaketown Brewing

Nestled in the heart of North Vancouver’s vibrant Brewery District, Shaketown Brewing opened their doors in 2022 with veteran, David Varga (33 Acres, Red Truck) at the helm of the beer program. The other co-founders are, Ryan Scholz, (Nita Lake Lodge, Nicli, Tacofino) CEO and Rohan Karnick, a newcomer to the Vancouver hospitality scene, selling the beer.

Shaketown borrows its name from the little-mentioned logging village in Lynn Valley in the 1800s and their immersive branding style never takes themselves too seriously. With one foot in history and one foot in absurd imagination, Shaketown has created a wealth of ‘alternative facts’, writing their own history of fake businesses, radio stations and community messages that can be found hidden all throughout their marketing. Boasting a bright, corner-unit tasting room with floor-to-ceiling windows, the views of the harbour are some of the best in the area and their community-style tables promote a welcoming, inclusive space to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones.

While their branding comes across as tongue-in-cheek, the one thing they do take seriously, however, is their beer. Shaketown Brewing’s ethos is to create easy drinking, classic styles with the highest quality ingredients with none of their core beers over 5% ABV. Their seasonal offerings and limited releases put a modern spin on European classics, playing with unique flavour combinations that are both as memorable as they are surprising.

They may be one of the newer additions to the BC brewery scene, but Shaketown Brewing has established themselves as a cornerstone in the bustling North Vancouver Shipyards Brewing District and beyond. Winning Best New Brewery in BC in 2022, a couple of BC Beer Awards in their first 6-months of operations and, most recently, a coveted World Beer Cup Award, Shaketown Brewing has found their niche in the competitive BC Beer market.

Since they have opened their doors, Shaketown Brewing has hosted some memorable, annual events such as their Summer Smoker Series, Beer Poking Party, Alt Bier Fest, and their Summer Hoedown along with weekly staples like Karaoke and their Social Running Group. As they grow, expect to see many more fun events and exciting new beer releases from Mr. Varga.
