About Dominion Cider
Founded by three friends: Mike, Robin and Luke.
We all grew up in the countryside: Robin in southern England, Luke in Saskatchewan, and Mike in Summerland. We started Dominion Cider Co. because we wanted to create something from scratch, with our hands, on land that we steward.
We named our cidery after the Dominion Experimental Farms, a cross-country agricultural network created to support Canadian farmers. Dominion Experimental Farms has more than a century of history in Summerland and established the valley as a world-class apple growing region. Many orchards were replaced with vineyards, heirloom apple varietals forgotten. We’ve planted them in our orchard to bring them back.
We aim to honor our namesake and the methods of those who’ve come before, whilst experimenting with some novel ingredients. Our cider is produced in small batches on our family farm using a careful selection of local apples. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, single heritage apple varietals, co-fermentation with other tree-fruit from our farm and natural conditioning techniques – we are constantly pushing ourselves as cidermakers. Our hands-off approach enables us to make cider that displays the true character of the apples.
You can find our cider on tap and in bottles at a fine selection of restaurants, cafes and private liquor stores across the province. Or come visit the tasting room at our farm in Summerland.
