About CheckMate Artisanal Winery
CheckMate Artisanal Winery was born out of a bold vision that by harnessing the impact of climate change our winemakers could produce astonishingly elegant wines in a very unexpected place, British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. The story of CheckMate is one of innovation, passion, risk, and determination. What originally began as an outrageous dream, is now setting a new standard for excellence.
Here in the ecologically pristine Okanagan Valley, glacial fed lakes stretch along a narrow valley floor at an altitude of more than 1200 feet. As the world warms, cool regions such as the Okanagan Valley provide a new frontier for world class Chardonnay and Merlot. A recently completed winery designed by architect Tom Kundig welcomes guests to taste year-round.
