Vancouver, BC | The Cinematheque’s Head Projectionist has selected three 1970s classics, to be presented in all-new restorations, for a primo aural experience showcasing the glories of The Cinematheque’s brand-new sound system. So settle down with some ice-cold black cherry soda and popcorn (with real butter!) in the theatre’s comfy new seats and enjoy!

Steven Spielberg’s JAWS (1975) | This landmark blockbuster is the electrifying tale of a resort town terrorized by a great white shark, and screens with a new Dolby Surround 7.1 sound mix. “Perhaps the most perfectly constructed horror story in our time.”

Francis Ford Coppola’s APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) | This phantasmagoric tour de force features game-changing sound design by Walter Murch, a pioneer of surround sound. “A gilt-edged, no-messing, accept-no-substitutes masterpiece.”

Francis Ford Coppola’s THE CONVERSATION (1974) | Coppola’s 1974 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winner features a magnificent, multi-layered sound design by famous editor and soundman Walter Murch. “A bleak and devastatingly brilliant film.”

About The Cinematheque

The Cinematheque is a charitable cultural organization that brings the Essential Cinema Experience to Vancouver audiences. Home to one of the largest and most extensive programs of curated films in North America, The Cinematheque presents over 500 screenings annually including retrospectives of great directors’ works, new features from Canada’s hottest young filmmakers, prestigious internationally touring exhibitions, plus guest appearances, lectures, special receptions, and much more.

The Cinematheque is also home to the West Coast Film Archive, a collection which holds 2000+ works on 16mm and 35mm film, the Film Reference Library, and an award-winning Education Department that works with youth, educators, and the community-at-large year-round to provide digitial filmmaking programs, critical media literacy workshops, and educational film screenings.
