Borelesque | Slang | A put down of burlesque by people who see it as a low substitute for local culture.
Usage | “Did you hear about Jen? She traded in yoga for a Borelesque troupe.”
A no messing around guide to the coolest things to eat, drink and do in Vancouver and beyond. Community. Not clickbait.
How Rude! Yes, because YOGA is an example of high art..? Not only is your reference severely outdated, and I assume, used without permission. It is extremely unfair to generally shit talk an extremely diverse and evolved art form, as a whole. Just like any art, music, theater, there are many levels of professionalism, skill, style, etc. If you think Burlesque is boring, then you are CLEARLY going to the wrong shows. Or, you are a snob or a prude, and well thats on you!
Vancouver is home to a large chunk of the worlds TOP performers. All of whom are hardworking and highly skilled artists, performers, dancers, costumers, feminists, entrepreneurs etc etc. I suggest you do your “research” PROPERLY and go out and witness some of these glorious women (and men) doing what many of them have devoted their life, time, career and souls to, at many of the professional, highly skilled, well polished, high concept shows in this ungrateful city.
For example, the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival is one of the best, biggest and most sought out, in the world. This impressive, long running festival not only has TOO MANy top notch local performers to fit on the impressive bill, but professional performers from all over the world vying for a spot on the Vogue stage.
Do your homework properly before dumping on an art form that is considered some peoples bread and butter, and heart and soul!
Yep friends off Scout Magazine.
Holy good God, folks. This a DICTIONARY, not an expression of opinion.
I guess people who do burlesque also can’t read very well… “A put down by people who see it as a low substitute for local culture”. BY PEOPLE WHO. We’re not saying burlesque is boring, even though it totally is.
