Welcome to the Vancouver Lexicon. Its purpose is to pin down the patois of the City of Vancouver by recording its toponyms, nicknames, slang terms, personalities, places, and other Van-centric things. Full A-Z here.
Botch | nickname | Jason Botchford was the much-loved, independently-minded, pulled-no-punches, occasionally shit-disturbing veteran Vancouver Canucks beat reporter for The Province newspaper and, more recently, The Athletic. In other parts of the English-speaking world, ‘botch’ means “to carry out a task badly” but in the Vancouver sports arena it was long synonymous with integrity and hard work. Botch passed away in late April, 2019 at the age of 48. He is already missed.
Usage: “If I ever had the opportunity to drink from Stanley Cup after the Canucks finally win it, I’d take a sip for Botch.”
