The GOODS from Popina Canteen

Vancouver, BC | Award-winning singer-songwriter Jann Arden has joined forces with the chefs at Popina Canteen to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. Arden has developed a veggie-forward toasted focaccia sandwich, which will be available at the Granville Island eatery for two weeks. Proceeds from the sandwich will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The sandwich starts with two puffy squares of focaccia covered with a generous spreading of hummus, layered with thin slices of cucumber, artichoke, hearty smoked tofu, red onion and tomato. The sandwich is then toasted and served warm, and is sure to appeal to omnivores and vegans alike.

Arden’s recipe is a personal favourite. “It’s crunchy and refreshing and really flavourful,” she says, and makes it twice a week at home.

Chef Robert Belcham met Arden through mutual connections, and knowing that cancer had touched both their lives, as it has the lives of so many Canadians, the collaboration seemed like an obvious fit.

Arden is a multi-platinum award-winning singer-songwriter, eight-time Juno award winner, actress, broadcaster, author, and a recipient of the Order of Canada. With a career spanning three decades, in March 2020 she will be the first person inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Popina Canteen began its fundraising campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society in the fall of 2019, featuring sandwiches developed by chefs and well-known Canadian personalities. Proceeds from the sandwich collaboration go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Popina Canteen is open year-round, and is available for private event bookings and custom off-site catering. Gift certificates are available. Winter hours are 11am to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday.
