Branding Vancouver is a new column in which we look at some of the more interesting logos and icons that appear in Vancouver’s food and beverage scene. Some of the explanations will be long and others short, but the goal of deeper understanding will be constant. If you want the backstory of a particularly compelling local brand revealed, let us know via @scoutmagazine and we’ll try to figure it out.
The Brand: This week we go back in Vancouver’s history to a time – really not very long ago – when there was a porn theatre in the heart of Mount Pleasant (now The Fox Cabaret). It was the inspiration behind the logo of Main Street Brewing‘s “Naked Fox IPA”.
The Product: “Born from infamy, our Naked Fox is a sly one. This dry IPA is brewed using a variety of North American and Southern Hemisphere hops, packing in everything you’d want in hop flavour and aroma into a single beer. The dryness on the malt side lets the hops shine through.”

The Story: as told by Main Street Brewing co-owner Nigel Pike…
Main Street’s Naked Fox IPA label plays homage the infamous Fox adult film cinema that positioned itself in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood for close to 30 years’. Just like the theatre, the beer comes with a strict, over-19 only warning: ‘may cause spontaneous nudity’.
