Meatless Draw & Bingo Jamboree to Shake Up British Ex-Serviceman’s Legion

Photo: Edwin Torres

On Thursday, March 22nd the British Ex-Serviceman’s Legion is hosting a very unconventional, very vegetarian-friendly spin on the familiar Meat Draw theme that sounds like a blast, regardless of your dietary convictions. “Don’t Have a Cow Man: A Soy-tacular Meat Draw & Bingo Jamboree” is an evening that includes an extraordinary fancy-faux-meat raffle, plus two requisite, ages-old Legion pastimes: bingo and karaoke.

Now for the important part: the meatless foods up for grabs! We’re not talking about bland tofu in various states of solidity here. If you’re unacquainted with the enormous advances in meatless substitutes, let me reassure you that the stuff of this Draw is pure deliciousness. Organizers have solicited donations from local veggie suppliers (PlantBase, Richmond’s Happy Veggie World, and Chinatown’s newish addition,Vegan Supply) and from around Canada (Victoria’s Very Good Butchers and our veggie-meat purveying friends out east, Yam Chops, of Toronto).

Tickets are available for $10 in advance either here or at the door, with all proceeds going to support two animal-loving charities. NB. If your budget is a little too squeezed but you still want to show your support then don’t fret — no one will be shooed away from this shindig!

Smell that? BBQ season is fast approaching, and the team behind Basta BBQ are primed to get grilling ASAP!

Hit East Van for the 2nd Annual Vancouver Brewers Fest, April 19-28th

Since a single person (and liver) can only handle so many beers and beer-drinking celebrations, some prioritizing is in order. Topping off our list of events is the imminent (and, in our opinion, non-negotiable) Vancouver Brewers Fest.
