Japantown | Place | Everyone knows we have one of the largest Chinatowns in North America, but not many people know that we once had a thriving Japantown as well. It was located along Powell St. on the DTES, where many Japanese confectionaries arose (sugar was once Vancouver’s third largest industry). The area was effectively destroyed by the forced internment after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. Learn more about the ghost neighbourhood here.
