Vancouver, BC | The creative minds behind Sai Woo are helping to refine Chinatown’s late-night scene with the opening of Woo Lounge on Friday, October 2. Hidden below Sai Woo’s modern dining room, this chic new lounge space is offering up innovative eats, craft cocktails and elegant ambiance.

As the late-night extension of Chinatown restaurant Sai Woo, which opened its doors in March 2015, Woo Lounge is set to become Vancouver’s newest weekend retreat. Beginning in October, the downstairs bar will be mixing drinks while a rotating list of DJs set the mood every Friday and Saturday evening from seven until midnight.

At the helm of the operation is seasoned restauranteur Salli Pateman. Formerly of Yaletown’s Section (3), Pateman has 18 years of immeasurable industry experience and an in-depth understanding of what it takes to succeed on the Vancouver scene. Supporting her vision is Dave Truscott on the bar and head chef Keev Mah. Already pleasing crowds with their internationally inspired and locally sourced dining menus upstairs, the team promises to bring the same flare and creative ideas to Woo Lounge. An exclusive bar menu and drink features have been specially crafted for the new lounge.

In contrast to the upstairs dining room, Woo Lounge strikes a more intimate chord. Basked in a candlelit glow, the lounge recalls the alluring mystery of the underground opium dens of yesteryear. This historic building has been entertaining diners since the 1920’s and the walls are lined with the hidden secrets of a storied past. Built by the experts at Milltown Contracting, who specialize in the use of recycled materials and reclaimed wood to create one-of-a-kind dining rooms, Woo Lounge is bringing this treasured space back to life.

Led by a passionate team of industry experts, Woo Lounge is poised to become the neighbourhood’s hottest new hangout and an inviting place to unwind after the work week. The lounge has space for 75 guests and is available for private parties and bookings.

In the heart of Chinatown an historic storefront conceals the secrets of Sai Woo. Our modern dining room serves globally-inspired cuisine created with fresh ingredients and surprising, lighthearted twists. Cocktails are crafted with precision using top-shelf liquors, fine teas, and exotic fruits. The original Sai Woo Chop Suey first opened its doors in 1925 and flourished as a local hangout for decades, preserving some of Vancouver’s oldest history. Our location is also remembered as the popular New Town Bakery but today, Sai Woo brings new life to this historical landmark with a modern and innovative menu.

We offer a 113-seat main floor dining area, bar, and Chef’s Table with a 75-seat lower lounge and bar, designed by the masterminds at Falken Reynolds along with Anna Walentowicz at Domain Creative. Restaurateur and owner Salli Pateman, formerly of Yaletown’s Section (3) of 18 years, has immeasurable industry experience with a solid team of expertise at her side. Award winning bartender Justin Anello oversees the bar, Shilo Francis and Tracey Page manage the front-of-house and Chef Keev Mah leads the kitchen.
