Top Chefs to Face Off at Ocean Wise Seafood Chowder Chowdown

The GOODS from Ocean Wise

Vancouver, BC | Fall has arrived, and the cooler temperatures beckon warming comfort food. Seafood chowder was made for these days. On Wednesday, Nov. 22, chowder will be front and centre at the annual Ocean Wise Seafood Chowder Chowdown at the Vancouver Aquarium. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, and the roster is stacked with a host of past winners.

Seafood lovers will get a chance to try chowder from 13 of our local and across Canada past winners with Ocean Wise seafood partners coming in from Courtenay, Penticton, Comox, Calgary and Toronto as they vie to take home the ultimate chowder prize. The culinary heavyweights will be going ladle-to-ladle in a competition to be named 2017 Chowder Chowdown All-Star Champion, as judged by an industry and media panel. The panel will also name a winner for best chowder and beer pairing, and guests will have their say by casting their vote for the People’s Choice Award winner.

“Vancouver is the birthplace of the Ocean Wise seafood program as well as Chowder Chowdown, an event which was held in two other cities this year and has been adapted in cities from Halifax to Osoyoos. The movement has clearly spread across Canada and this event is a delicious way to celebrate the growing interest consumers have in sustainable seafood, featuring some of the most notable names in Canada’s restaurant industry and some of the region’s top breweries, too,” said Ann-Marie Copping, Ocean Wise seafood program manager. “It’s a great chance to try some local sustainable seafood while rubbing elbows with like-minded foodies and chefs who are all part of this powerful movement.”

With chowder in one hand, guests can balance in the other a beer from one of the province’s best brewers, including Postmark, Steel & Oak, Red Truck, and Driftwood, to name a few. Walter Caesar, Canada’s only Ocean Wise caesar mix, will also be on tap so getting thirsty will not be an issue.
