This French-Style Ice Cream Parlour on the West Side is Worth Getting Excited About

Aiming to tantalize West Side’s sweet-tooths this week is La Glace, pastry chef Mark Tagulao’s new gem of an artisanal ice cream parlour. The bright and shiny shop at 2785 West 16th Avenue (off MacDonald Ave.) has been in soft opening mode for week or so now and officially launches August 4th. It specializes in French-style ice cream (dense and creamy) scooped in cups, cones, waffle cones and parfaits. There are some 10 flavours to experience (some sorbet, some vegan), plus a variety of other housemade treats like profiteroles, macarons and cookies — pastry pairings a la mode!

Big dreams finally realized tend to be tasty things, and Tagulao has been at it for a while. It’s very possible that you may have tried his treats before as he’s been in the pop-up game for years, having made past appearances at Crème de la Crème, Holt Renfrew, Williams-Sonoma, The Granville Social and TED Talks. Graduating from an ice cream cart to a brick and mortar spot must feel great for him. I imagine the distance between a degree in Psychology & Social Work and a passion project like this would feel too long at times; working HR for a bank, even longer! The dream is now for us to enjoy, and I’m really looking forward to digging in. Take a look…
