You Need To Try This is a running archive of all the awesome drinks and delicious dishes we’ve come across over the course of our professional and private lives.
Early this past Friday evening I sat for four or five dishes at the recently opened Published on Main Street. The best among them was the beautifully composed pasta dish pictured above. I haven’t asked chef Gus Stieffenhofer-Brandson for a total breakdown of its parts, but here’s the basic skinny: Five top-seared cubes of dense, well-seasoned farmer’s sausage set among five perfect agnolotti stuffed with creamy fresh cheese — basically a gussied-up Mennonite feast of pork and dumplings. The concentrated, smoke-licked taste of the toothsome, maillard-reacted meat was something special (the stuff of prairie summer sunset bonfires), while the gentle, lemon-lit dill sauce under the pierogies agnolotti was a gift to every bite. I imagine the menus at this new restaurant will change with the seasons, but I’m selfishly hoping this plate – as well as the hot and dreamy ‘Healing Broth’ bowl (not pictured) – will be constant. Also not pictured: a superb rendition of the French 75 cocktail by bar manager Nicole Cote.
It’s funny. I got this on Friday, and it looked nothing like that. No garnish. No dill sauce. I get that there’s some influence having Scout come to your restaurant and give you the royal treatment, but for a restaurant that charges ~$30 for mains, and $8 for a 10oz beer, you’d expect this level of detail to cascade down to us regular folk. Really disappointed, unfortunately.
I had this too and it was exactly as Andrew described it. Very tasty, and IIRC it was less than $20.
Calling bullshit on Ol’s comment.
I’m also going to have to disagree with OI, 80% of the menu is between $10 – $20, there are only five out of roughly thirty items on the menu over $25 and the beers were $5-6, not $8. All of these prices are on their website, this person is clearly a troll or hasn’t been to the restaurant.
I also had this dish when I went and it looked identical to the photo posted and tasted amazing!
Lol OI, I think you were at the wrong restaurant. This place is very affordable for a restaurant of this caliber in Vancouver and the dishes I had were almost identical to the photos on their IG. This place is a must hit for any Vancouver foodie and a great addition to Main St. Oh, and that Agnolotti dish is amazing and my beer was only $5
Y’all have drank Scout’s cool aid for too long.
OI, it’s spelled Kool Aid. I guess this explains why you had trouble reading the menu.
