This past weekend saw the 39th running of Vancouver Folk Fest out at Jericho Beach. The laid back outdoor event brought me back to the roots of what music festivals should be about – the art, the people, the feelings of connection one gets from sharing beautiful moments with hundreds of strangers. It was awesome. In walking past a stage on the way to another band I heard an artist say something along the lines of, “This festival isn’t like fast food. There’s nourishment here and community.” I think that sums it right up. This festival is still first and foremost about its folk.
