Cool Talks, Cheap Art, Hot Pizza As ‘Distrikt Homecoming’ Weekend Kicks Off

IMG_3343-(1)

Count on Distrikt Movement to compound two commonly disliked things – high school and exercise – and transform them into a Homecoming Party that you’ll actually look forward to! The North Vancouver alternative fitness club, which serves up a healthy dose of realism, community and occasionally beer with their yoga and workout classes, is celebrating their three year anniversary with a three-day extravaganza that starts today.

The celebration kicks off this evening (Thursday) with a free art show and sale at the Distrikt studio; and since accessibility is the name of their game, all art is priced under $100 with the proceeds being split 50/50 between participating artists and Spaceships (an off-shoot, non-profit youth program that “creates space for youth to cultivate powerful relationship and leadership tools through yoga and movement”). The shindig continues with two off-premises ticketed events the following Friday evening and all day Saturday.

To wit, things amp up at The Pipe Shop on Friday with a sweaty/silly pizza party featuring a line-up of inspirational talks as part of the DVRSN speaker series. For only 25 bones you’ll be sweatin’ and stretching it out at a CRUSH HUSH class, then stuffing your face with pizza (or, ‘heavy lifting’, as I like to call it) and laughing it off (aka ‘abs’).

For the real A-Types, Saturday is packed from 9am to 5pm with blocks of fitness classes, good eats and more from a healthy line-up of local businesses. If you cherish your lazy Saturday vibes too much, you can still join the festivities later for dinner and dessert courtesy of Chickpea and Earnest Ice Cream, plus drinking and dancing until late – so don’t sweat it! (Har har).

April 13-15 | Thursday @ Distrikt Movement Studio (#105-197 Forester St. North Van) | Friday-Saturday @ the Pipe Shop (115 Victory Ship Way) | $15-75 | Tickets & Details
