The GOODS from Fjällräven
Vancouver, BC | Fjällräven is about getting outside and spending time in nature. In BC, that means beaches, forests and mountains. Because we spend so much of our free time in the outdoors, we want to share some of our favourite local adventures that are close to our stores in Victoria and Vancouver…

HIKE / WALK / ADVENTURE:
Crown Mountain Trail
DIFFICULTY: Hard
TIME REQUIRED: 5hrs. Add an extra 1hr if you include the Grouse Grind trail.
DISTANCE: 8.9km if you take the gondola up Grouse Mountain (12.4km if you include the Grouse Grind Trail)
DOG POLICY: No dogs allowed, unfortunately.
KID FRIENDLY? Not really. I have seen a 10yr old with their parents on the peak so it depends on their and your ability. There are a few scrambles and some steep sections, so beware.
PARKING: Crown Mountain is behind Grouse Mountain so you can park in the Grouse Mountain carpark where you’d take the gondola.
TAKE:
Bug spray, Bug Spray, BUG SPRAY! In some bush and forest sections in the valley, you will be harassed by our hexapod invertebrate friends but they are more annoying than anything. A good thin long sleeve shirt will also help and a hat and sunscreen for the sun.
Like any alpine hike, the weather can change and temperatures can drop, especially in the valley. Make sure to take a wind breaker or shell jacket with a fleece layer or more depending on the month.
Water is a big one. Because of the hike length, inclination and duration, make sure to take enough water. There is a glacial stream that flows through the the trail just up from the base of Crown mountain where you can refill. Don’t forget some snacks for fuel as there’s 830m of elevation.
Good footwear as there is a mixture of terrain. Bush trail, rocky outcrop with a chain assist to descend (gets muddy), scrambles and root sections.
TIP:
Start early to avoid an overcrowded peak.
SNACK:
I love grabbing a protein shake from the Grouse Grind Coffee Bar. A great payoff at the end of the hike!
Awesome hike. Been their many times. Once from the Lynn Headwaters, past Norvan Falls, and up the Hanes Valley. Took the gondola down on that one!
