Holiday Spirit Need Uplifting? Head Up Grouse Mountain for “Peak of Christmas”

If your holiday mood needs a lift, then we suggest heading up to Grouse Mountain for the “Peak of Christmas” (ongoing until January 7th). The Mountain has been dressed up in full holiday mode with daily activities that appeal to every festive sensibility, from outdoorsy and traditional to easy-going and family-friendly.

What could be more exhilarating and de-stressing this time of year than taking in some fresh alpine air and skating on a frozen pond beneath the stars, hiking through a twinkling light show, hitching a ride on a reindeer-pulled sleigh, or by humouring the big kid inside while hurtling down the mountainside on a sled?

If you’re more of a traditionalist, are feeling especially nostalgic, or have kids in tow, take in the novelty of Santa’s Workshop and the Reindeer Habitat, and don’t forget to place your vote for the most impressive architectural cookie feat at the Gingerbread Village.

Of course, it wouldn’t be the full sensory experience without carolling…but don’t worry, we’re not talking about the tinny, unavoidable and inevitably nerve-grating renditions of the mall speaker variety. Instead, music appreciators can expect an eclectic mix of professional choral offerings — holiday favourites, pop tunes, gospel, even chant de Noël.

Bundling up for your trip is a no-brainer, but if you run on the chilly side then you’ll be comforted to know that the combination of fireside performances, crafts, story readings and all-day screenings of Christmas movies mean that you can keep your body temperature and heart warm by hopping between indoor and outdoor amusements.

If you’ve already got your hands on an Annual or Snow Pass then you’ll definitely want to make the most of it because admission is included in the price. Individual tickets for the Alpine Experience are $44.95 for adults and $15.95 for kids aged 5-12 (4 and under are free). Family passes ($89.95) are also available. Skirides get going at 8:45am and end at 10pm. Get more details HERE.
