The GOODS from Chambar

Vancouver, BC | Owners Nico and Karri Schuermans are pleased to announce the appointment of Edwyn Kumar as General Manager of their iconic Vancouver restaurant, Chambar.

A 20-year veteran of the industry, Edwyn comes to Chambar by way of some of Vancouver’s finest restaurants, including NU, Lumière, Cin Cin and his last position as General Manager and Wine Director of Burnaby, BC’s Hart House restaurant.

“Chambar has had such a huge cultural and culinary impact on the city and our region,” Edwyn says. “It really ushered in the idea of informal fine dining with an integrated, bar-forward program. As a longtime fan and diner, I’m very excited to be the next steward of its legacy.”

Edwyn will be managing day-to-day operations and floor service, taking over from Justin Tisdall, who like many other Chambar alumni is moving on to open his own 48-seat restaurant, Juke, with partners Cord Jarvie (Meat & Bread) and Chef Bryan Satterford (Hawksworth). Slated to open in Spring 2016, the elegant home-style fried chicken concept will open across from Chambar alumn, Tannis Ling of award winning Bao Bei.

“We wish all the best to Justin and his partners with their new venture, and we are delighted to welcome Edwyn to the Chambar family,” says Karri Schuermans. “We’re very much looking forward to working with Edwyn to further evolve Chambar, and embrace an exciting new era of dining culture in Vancouver!”

    About Chambar

    14937427893_da095c525b_o

Chambar offers a unique pairing of Belgian and North African influences. Wherever possible, organic and local ingredients are combined to create fantastic food that reflects the seasons. The menu is a diverse offering of appetizers, moule frites, and main courses of lamb, duck, and venison. A variety of Belgian beers are also available, and can be paired with any item on the menu. At the bar, an award winning cocktail list boasts an extensive array of infused spirits and fresh local fruit. The long walnut bar is perfect place to enjoy a pre-dinner dinner drink or to catch up with old friends. In the dining room blood red booths are high enough to allow for privacy, and maybe just a hint of debauchery, while Italian designed chairs and an eclectic and rotating art collection complement Chambar’s heritage surroundings beautifully. Open for breakfast, lunch, brunch & dinner 8am – late.
