About the Chinese Canadian Museum

The Chinese Canadian Museum opened on July 1, 2023 with a goal to honour, preserve, and share the stories of Chinese Canadians. Created to address the longstanding absence of a dedicated institution representing this vital part of Canada’s history, the museum is guided by its mission to connect people to the Chinese Canadian story and to champion inclusion for all. This commitment shapes every exhibition, program, and initiative, ensuring that the diverse experiences and contributions of Chinese Canadians are presented with authenticity, respect, and depth.

As the first museum of its kind in Canada, the Chinese Canadian Museum is located in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Chinatown. Visitors can explore the museum’s exhibitions and programs from Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with extended hours offered for select public events and special programming.

The museum provides transformative experiences for visitors of all ages through thoughtfully curated exhibitions, educational initiatives, community partnerships, and storytelling that illuminate both historical narratives and contemporary perspectives. With a growing presence across British Columbia and Canada, the museum is dedicated to accessibility and outreach, working with communities province-wide to share local histories, lived experiences, and the enduring legacy of Chinese Canadians.

Through this work, the museum fosters dialogue, deepens understanding of Chinese Canadian and immigrant history, and champions a more inclusive telling of Canada’s past, present, and future.
