Penticton, BC | Cannery Brewing has two new awards to add to their growing medal collection. This past weekend at the 15th Annual Canadian Brewing Awards held in Ottawa, Cannery Brewing received a Gold Medal and a Bronze Medal.

Ross Thompson, co-owner and Head Brewer of Cannery Brewing who accepted the awards on behalf of the Cannery Brewing team explained, “Our Kiek in de Kök Baltic Porter won the Gold Medal in the Baltic Porter category and our Thornless Blackberry Porter won the Bronze Medal in the Flavoured Stout/Porter category. It was a real honour to bring these awards back to Penticton. These awards recognize and celebrate the very best in Canadian Brewing, and we are thrilled that two of our beers were recognized.”

Thompson continued, “Our Baltic Porter is a limited release seasonal beer. It is a classic Baltic Porter brewed with traditional German malts and noble hops. Like most Baltic Porters that typically are strong and sweet, our Baltic Porter is a dark lager that has a sweet roasted flavour combined with a spark of dark fruit to embrace the warmth of the alcohol. It has a rich, velvet smoothness that blasts through to the finish.” This is the third Canadian Brewing Award for Cannery Brewing’s Baltic Porter, which also won the Gold in 2014 and the Silver in 2015. While the Baltic Porter is currently sold out, watch for the next batch to reappear in the winter.

The Thornless Blackberry Porter, which won the Bronze is one of Cannery Brewing’s flagship beers. It started out as a limited release beer, but fans of the beer have ensured its continuous production for more than a decade. It is available at government and private liquor stores across the province.

In summary, Thompson exclaimed, “It was wonderful to participate in the Canadian Brewing Awards and to celebrate with so many other passionate craft brewers from across Canada. We’re thrilled to be a part of this exciting and evolving industry. We are particularly proud of the results for BC’s craft breweries with over one third of the total awards going to breweries in BC.” Penticton’s Bad Tattoo Brewing also brought home a silver medal and Revelstoke’s Mt. Begbie Brewing was named the 2017 Brewery of the Year.

The Canadian Brewing Awards is Canada’s national competition for judging the quality of Canadian manufactured beer and ciders. More than 1700 entries were submitted for the competition to determine the best beers and ciders in over 60 style categories. A Canadian Brewing Award medal is a widely recognized symbol of Canadian brewing excellence. For more information, visit https://www.canadianbrewingawards.com/about-us/.
