Whistler, BC | A whole season for the arts! Arts Whistler and the cultural community are shining a spotlight on Whistler’s arts scene this fall with Fall for Arts. Whistler’s autumn season is rich with popular festivals, art markets, creative workshops, galleries and exhibit openings, local music, and movie nights – all of which make Whistler the vibrant and dynamic place it is. Fall for Arts kicked off on September 1st and runs through early December. Here’s what’s to come on the immediate horizon in November…

Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a down-on- his-luck private eye in 1977 Los Angeles. Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) is a hired enforcer who hurts people for a living. Kick off Arts Whistler Live! with The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer. Shawn ‘The Harpoonist’ Hall and Matthew ‘The Axe Murderer’ Rogers evoke much more than just grisly nautical imagery. Armed with an arsenal of harmonicas, a mess of foot percussion, and a road-worn telecaster, the duo kick out raw and primal blues in the tradition of a ‘decades-deep blues style’ with a jolt of renewed energy. QUEST UNIVERSITY PRESENTS “THE NATURE OF VIRTUE”

What is the nature of virtue?  This is a central concern of ethics, but we often shy away from discussing moral virtue, thinking that there is either no such thing, or that it is impossible to define, or that it cannot be known.  In this talk, we will consider a couple of candidate answers to this question, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each. WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN?: HEALING THE LEGACY OF RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS
On now – April | Location: Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre Between 1831 and 1969, residential schools operated in Canada through arrangements between the Government of Canada and the church. One common objective defined this period – the assimilation of Aboriginal children. This exhibit explores the history and legacy of Canada’s Residential School System through survivor stories, archival photographs, and documents curated by Iroquois artist, Jeff Thomas.

Operating out of the Maury Young Arts Centre in the heart of Whistler Village, Arts Whistler runs a variety of creative classes, showcases an exciting lineup of live shows for the Arts Whistler Live!, and hosts year-round, free-admission exhibits in The Gallery supporting local artists and their craft.
