Café Iruña in Paplona was Ernest Hemingway’s favorite hangout when he was in Pamplona for the running of the bulls. In celebration of the ‘European Opera Days 2010.’ the Opera Choir ‘Premier Ensemble’ gave a surprise performance.
It’d be kinda cool if you were at the Irish Heather for a pint or on the Skytrain and all of a sudden some lady from our local opera crew started belting out O Mio Bambino Caro, no? But who am I kidding. There’s probably some by-law…
There is a by-law…………….no amplied music with more than two musicians.
This would probably squeak by.
Thanks for that, it has made my day.
UBC has an opera program — yesterday on campus I experienced a very much smaller version of the quizzical delight experienced by the people in the video, when an opera student walked by, practicing quietly while out enjoying the sunshine.
But I like your suggestion: I’m sure a Skytrain aria would be a great opportunity for the budding prima donnas (and primo dons ?!) at the school to get a larger audience for their end-of-year recitals! And opera singers don’t need amplification…
A Halloween Seabus party took place last month (the attendants were quite amused and took videos and pictures) and a silent Skytrain dance party happened earlier this year. I don’t see why singing opera on the Skytrain would be objectionable.
