Get Stoked to Celebrate the Year of the Pig in Chinatown on February 10

Last year was for the Dogs, but the Year of the Pig is just around the corner on February 5th. Lunar New Year festivities mean it’s time for the annual Temple Fair at Chinatown’s Classical Chinese Gardens. This year’s event is happening on Sunday, February 10th from 10:30am to 4:30pm. As usual, you can expect the venue to be packed with festival-goers of all ages enjoying a day devoted to hands-on activities, demonstrations, colourful entertainments and tasty treats to pig out on (pun intended) in honour of the twelfth animal of the Zodiac – the life-loving swine!

The day’s line-up includes traditional festivities, such as the always spectacular Lunar New Year parade, a Lion Dance performance and ceremonial tea tastings. There will also be modern additions, like Edible Project‘s latest entry into their culinary canon, which is an updated version of tang yuan (sweet rice balls in syrup). Other highlights include storytelling, ping pong, pig-themed paper cutting and a marketplace where you can pick up original art souvenirs by a handful of local crafty people, among a great many other things. Bonus: slip inside the gallery to check out the latest exhibit of art by Paul Wong, Suk-Fong, How Are You?, as part of his year-long artist residency at the Gardens.

A Neighbourhood-Wide Invitation to Wander Chinatown

When summer foot traffic slowed, a group of Chinatown businesses responded the way the best neighbourhoods often do: by working together. Their month-long Chinatown Passport is an invitation to wander, eat, drink and rediscover the neighbourhood.
