The Goods from The Lazy Gourmet
Vancouver, BC | If the sheer panic of seeking a last-minute venue for seasonal celebrations or holiday soirées is setting in, take heart and solve those festive party planning woes at the 1931 Gallery Bistro.
Located at 750 Hornby Street in the heart of Downtown Vancouver adjacent the landmark Vancouver Art Gallery, the Bistro offers an intimate and affordable option where culinary excellence is served with a side of culture and elegant sit-down affairs or cocktail parties for corporate or client appreciation events are guaranteed to be the hit of everyone’s holiday season.
Named in honour of the founding year of the Art Gallery, the bistro offers bright and cozy confines complemented by a modern, minimalist design scheme and a terraced patio surrounded by lush greenery that overlooks Robson Square and adds a unique al-fresco flair to any event.
The Bistro can comfortably host 95 guests for receptions and 75 for sit-down events year round and an additional 120 guests between May and September when the patio is open, with the option to add multiple adjoining spaces in the Art Gallery for a total of up to 800 guests.
Beyond the Bistro’s daily fare — including one of the best off-the-radar brunches in the city — hosts can also take advantage of fully and easily customizable lunch and dinner menus that marry the best local ingredients with international inspiration and celebrate the best of the West Coast from the culinary team at award-winning catering and events company The Lazy Gourmet.
Some of the notable events hosted recently by The Lazy Gourmet at the Bistro included gala receptions for the International Live Events Association and Belmond Luxury Brand and a premium lounge that was part of of a VIP reception for 850+ guests to celebrate the opening of the new Firelei Baez exhibition.
While a full buyout of the Bistro normally amounts to a minimum spend of $3,750, events that are booked through The Lazy Gourmet from now until January 31, 2025 exclusively are offered at a reduced holiday rate of $2,000.
Art Gallery access can also be added for any event for a discounted price ($4 off regular admission, minimum 10 people) throughout the holidays during opening hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, with private tours also an optional based on educator availability.
Current Gallery exhibitions include the marquee first mid-career survey of the richly layered work of Firelei Báez, the ‘500 Year Itch’ retrospective of Canadian Indigenous multimedia artist Shelley Niro, the ‘Room of Her Own’ exhibition showcasing 25 works drawn from the Gallery’s Emily Carr Collection, and more.
Individual reservations for daily holiday dining at 1931 Gallery Bistro from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m. are also available via OpenTable.
