This is great news for all those who don’t believe breakfast should have set hours of operation. Jam Cafe, the very popular all-day breakfast/brunch spot in Victoria, is coming across the Strait to open a 50 seater in the original Cafe Medina location at 556 Beatty Street. (Until recently, it was the short-lived Danica’s Cafe)

Owners Jim and Candy Walmsley have joined forces with Mike Deas-Dawlish (ex-Aburi Restaurants, Sequoia Group) and executive chef Buddy Wolfe (ex-Seasons In The Park) to execute the project with chef Scott Mins (ex-Grub). They’ve just taken possession of the address and expect to have the warm and rustic comfort food restaurant open at some point this spring.

I’m looking forward to this in a big way. The one in Victoria really has my number. They do an all-day plate called The Gravy Coupe, which sees fried chicken and sausage gravy on a buttermilk biscuit with a pair of sunny-side eggs and hashbrowns. True story. They also do seven different eggs benedicts. Oh, and remember when we touted that decadent nutella and banana sandwich at Homer St. Cafe a week or two ago? Yeah, Jam does one of those too (they call it a “Cracker Jack”).
