Welcome to the Vancouver Lexicon. Its purpose is to pin down the patois of the City of Vancouver by recording its toponyms, nicknames, slang terms, personalities, places, and other Van-centric things. Full A-Z here.
Condo Creep | phenomenon | The slow, creeping infiltration of high-rise condo towers from an urban core into traditionally less dense, lower-rise, industrial, commercial, and/or historic areas of the city (aka Density Creep). Condo Creep is becoming increasingly common in Vancouver and other North American cities, where it is usually the result of expansive re-zoning. Depending on your stance (YIMBY or NIMBY), it can be seen as either a positive thing that creates more housing (even if few can afford it) or the decline of a neighbourhood and the erasure of its character.
Usage | “Since it was re-zoned, the lower Main Street section of Mount Pleasant has seen a lot of Condo Creep coming up from Olympic Village…”

That’s disappointing. I thought there was going to be an article here.
I don’t mind condos going into industrial areas, as there usually isn’t much character to retain anyways, but what I don’t like is when condos take the place of smaller affordable retail buildings. The replacement retail is terrible and doesn’t attract the right mix of businesses.
Sorry to disappoint. The lexicon isn’t a series of articles but rather a series of definitions.
