BC Hospitality Foundation to Launch Scholarship in Honour of Chef Nicholas Lim

As many in the industry may have heard, chef Nicholas (“Nik”) Lim passed away suddenly a couple of weeks ago. He was just 36 years old. The industry veteran had worked his way up through local restaurants like Red Door, Hart House and Fraiche to become the executive chef at North Vancouver’s Gusto di Quattro — when he was just 25. A few years ago he struck out on his own, launching Chef Nik Culinary Services, a custom catering and consulting company. I knew him mostly by reputation, as a hard worker whose love of cooking ran deep.

To honour his memory, the BC Hospitality Foundation is now aiming to establish a scholarship in his name.

The BCHF is in the process of creating a scholarship to honour the memory of Chef Nik Lim. Nessa Van Bergen and Chef Dino Renaerts initiated the scholarship as a tribute to their colleague, and the grant will be managed by the BCHF.

One of the brightest lights on Vancouver’s culinary scene, Nik passed away in July 2019 at a young age.

Nik loved mentoring both junior chefs and floor staff, and his generosity and professionalism made a deep impression on his many friends and colleagues. We want to establish a scholarship in his name that will serve as a legacy that will live on for many years. In this way, Nik will indirectly continue be a mentor in the future – something we know would have made him very happy!

You can donate to the scholarship online HERE, or to avoid bank fees you can mail a cheque to:

PO Box 34543 Pemberton Plaza
1268 Marine Drive
North Vancouver, B.C. V7P 1T0

Please specify that the funds are to be used exclusively for the Nik Lim scholarship.

Thank you!
