With our city now so laughably unaffordable, thousands of Vancouverites are stuck imagining wonderful homes instead of living in them. Spaced is a record of our minds wandering the world of architecture and design, up and away from the unrewarding realities of shoebox condos, dark basement suites, sweet f~ck all on Craigslist and three levels of government that couldn’t give a damn.

(via) Located on a private island off the coast of Sweden, this tiny “72h Cabin” was named after the length of time a study by the Karolinska Institutet took to come to conclusions about stress reduction. Made from Norwegian spruce, the structure is incredibly basic with a stilted platform holding a bed backed by integrated shelving and surrounded by glass walls that look out across the water, along the coast and back into the woods. The gabled roof panels are glass too, so we trust there’s some stargazing involved in the experience as well.

Designed by Swedish firm JeanArch, the wee thing is exactly the no-frills sort of escape we’d want for a secret sliver of raggedy inlet waterfront somewhere on the Sunshine Coast. It’s clearly more of a summery thing than one of winter, but if they can make it work seasonally in Sweden then we could definitely pull it off here. And so we dream…
