The Juice Truck’s Ryan & Zach Show Us How To Make Their “Hedgehog” Smoothie

FullSizeRender-3
by Ryan Slater & Zach Berman | As a kid, whenever I spotted a bowl of Ferrero Rocher at some family friend’s or relative’s house, we would fill our cheeks with them like maniacs. They were our favourites. Needless to say, it was high on our bucket list to create a smoothie version of our favourite childhood treat. Our healthy, hazel-nutty version packs in the flavour. Make yours at home with this easy recipe:

THE HEDGEHOG SMOOTHIE

– 1/2 a frozen avocado (scoop a half avocado out of its skin and put it overnight in the freezer) or substitute with 1 frozen banana.
– 1 tbsp cacao powder (Organic Traditions or Giddy Yo Yo are two of our favourite brands. You can find cacao powder at Body Energy Club, Famous Foods, Finlandia, Wholefoods or Choices).
– 1 heaping spoonful of hazelnut butter (we like the Nuts To You or Artisana brands).
– 1/4 tsp raw vanilla (we like Organic Traditions or Giddy Yo Yo brands).
– 1/2 tsp of cinnamon.
– 1/2 tsp of maca (we like Navitas or Organic Traditions brands).
– a pinch of Himalayan rock salt
– Fill to 500 ml with Almond Milk
– Add a few ice cubes to thicken and chill the smoothie.

Blend and enjoy! [ed. note: no hedgehogs were harmed in the making of this smoothie]

What began as a couple of dudes with a strong sense of wanderlust and a dream of making juice has blossomed into a company that is slowly but surely becoming a hub of health and wellness in YVR. Maybe they’ll travel the world again soon and dream some more. Until then, they’re cracking wise and making stuff here.
