DINER: Heading Out On The Organic Ocean Today To Go Fishing For Local Spot Prawns

by Andrew Morrison | It’s 5:40am and for the fourth year in a row I’m headed out on the Organic Ocean for the day (and tomorrow, too) fishing for spot prawns to kick off the season. Keep tabs on Scout’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for live photo updates of Cpt. Steve and the boys doing their thing and the occasional undisciplined octopus. I’ll be with a small TV crew filming a pilot for a show about the history and breadth of Canadian cuisine, so if you see me kicking around False Creek Fisherman’s Wharf with a boom mike after we dock, be sure to poke fun.

Outtakes From a Maenam-aLena Staff Meal

We love a good family-style staff meal. Last month, we caught wind of a variation on this theme: a staff meal exchange between neighbourbood restaurants, Maenam and AnnaLena.

Reverence, Respect, and Realization: What The Acorn Taught Me

At 21 years old, I'm still just a kid and relatively new to working in restaurants, but I grew up umbilically tied to the hospitality industry. My father was a food writer, and my mother is a photographer. Their careers meant that most of my early years were spent in kitchens and dining rooms instead of on playgrounds and soccer fields; consequently, I learned my table manners before I could count past one hundred.
