Vancouver to Score Middle Eastern ‘Superbaba’ Food Truck in June

When casual, Middle East-inspired Superbaba opened in Victoria last summer I wondered how long it would be before we saw another one. Indeed, since the collaborative venture brought together Tacofino‘s Jason Sussman, Ryan Spong, Josh Carlsen and Mike Dawson with Robbie Kane of Café Medina and Abdallah El Chami of The Dallah Menu, it didn’t really scream “one-off”. So I was especially glad and not at all surprised to learn that a Superbaba food truck would soon hit Vancouver’s streets, specifically the spot where Tacofino parked its 1997 Ford ECO “White Lightning” truck for several years (northwest corner of Burrard and Dunsmuir). They hope to have it ready for service in early June, serving roughly 90% of the same menu as the Victoria original.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that a brick and mortar version is imminent for Vancouver, but I suppose it would be the next logical step! In the meantime, to introduce Vancouver diners to its deliciousness (I’m partial to the falafel, labneh and apple baklava), we might see a Superbaba pop-up night or two in the near future, most likely at Tacofino’s Oasis location. We’ll report on that if/when we get confirmation. In the meantime, feast on these images…
