Vancouver, BC | Pony is a bustling boutique hair salon in Gastown with a dedicated and loyal following. We are currently looking for a new team member who is compassionate, motivated and interested in earning a guaranteed great income.

The candidate we seek is advanced in their training as a stylist (has at very minimum 5 years industry experience) and will work with us to seamlessly fill in the void left by one of our beloved and very experienced stylists who will be starting her maternity leave in February. We wish for a start date as soon as possible and no later than January 5th, 2016.

If hired you will become one of our key team members, taking care of many of our most treasured and long term clients. Our clients are incredibly diverse in age, style, lifestyle and interests. They are dream clients who are both reasonable and interesting and we need a high calibre hairstylist to keep them content. At Pony you will utilize your experience in hairdressing and your finely tuned organizational skills to stay on top of your very busy booked days while providing clients with consistently high quality bespoke hair services. This is a fun job for the right person and the benefits and renumeration are high but this would not be ideal if you are used to long breaks during your work days!

Our small salon is like an airport with all kinds of people landing and leaving continuously — it really suits people that are quick, intuitive, sensitive to people, tidy and funny. The hours and days worked would be between Tuesday to Saturday and 10am to 8pm –the schedule will be tailored to suit the successful candidate. This could be a part-time, 3/4 or full-time position for the best fit. If all this sounds like it might be you, please read on!

This job requires the ability to:
– Provide excellent customer service; key aspects of the service you provide would be to use an extensive and well-developed consultation process and educate your clients on how to re-create their desired looks at home.
– Be consistently punctual and dress smartly.
– Stay on top of current fashion and style trends and incorporate them into hairstyles that work for your clients.
– Continuously stand and walk throughout the day.
– Care about and work well with the rest of our exceptional team.
– Speak clearly and politely on the phone and write grammatically correct emails.
– Be both a good listener and communicator – we all work hard here to stay inspired, continuously learn and improve from each other.
– Maintain consistently organised, positive and professional vibes in a small and busy space!
– Be totally and infectiously passionate about hair!

Compensation will be based on performance and is paid bi-weekly by direct deposit. For the right candidate additional advantages of being the newest team member at Pony Salon could include a monthly transit or vehicle allowance and/or parking, extended health benefits, a very flexible working and vacation leave policy, enhanced educational support and the chance to work the with the best staff in the business. We highly encourage and support continued education and a desire to participate in local or international training would reflect well on our consideration.

Pony works with the best haircare lines available and currently carries Bumble and bumble and Oribe for retail and utilizes L’Oreal Professional, Wella Professional, Redken and Pravana colour lines as well as Olaplex treatments. We do not offer straightening or perming services in the salon.

This job has the opportunity to be many things: a contract position for a phenomenal transient stylist or a permanent full or part-time position at the conclusion of a one year maternity leave.

Pony Salon opened its doors in late November 2012 in the heart of Vancouver’s Gastown area and is home to a team of hand-selected experienced, engaged and thoughtful stylists. The salon ‘keeps it simple’ by specializing in what they do best; expert haircuts, hair colours and styling serviced by top professionals who are passionate about their craft.

The salon space showcases the 100 year old bones of the building with high ceiling, south facing windows and exposed posts and beams, a design aesthetic that personifies the historical Gastown neighbourhood. An assortment of complimentary beverages, the latest fashion magazines (including those bewitching gossip magazines), wifi and comfortable styling chairs all help the staff easily provide for every experiential need during services.

The salon exclusively carries the Bumble and bumble hair care line from New York City and staff frequently train at the House of Bumble in Manhattan.
