L’Abattoir Appoints Wine Industry Veteran Peter Van de Reep as Head Sommelier

The Goods from L’Abattoir

Vancouver, BC | L’Abattoir – the multi-award-winning, Michelin-recommended restaurant located in Vancouver’s historic Gastown neighbourhood – is thrilled to announce that Peter Van de Reep has stepped into the role of Head Sommelier, after joining the team this past spring.

Peter brings more than two decades of experience in hospitality and beverage programs to L’Abattoir, which celebrated its 15th anniversary this past summer. Named ‘BC Sommelier of the Year’ in 2020 by the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, he is a familiar face to Vancouver diners from his previous roles at Bar Gobo (another Michelin-recommended establishment) and the fondly remembered Campagnolo. Peter also received the prestigious Premier Crew Award, in recognition of his excellence in front-of-house leadership, at the 2023 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.

In addition to its innovative French-meets-West Coast cuisine, L’Abattoir is widely renowned for its meticulously curated wine list (including a Platinum Award from the Vancouver International Wine Festival) and creative cocktail program. Peter will be overseeing a stunning library of both local and internationally sourced bottles.

“I am very excited about continuing the level of excellence that L’Abattoir has championed for years,” says Peter. “It has always been one of my favourite rooms in the city and I am honoured to take on this role. Come and let me pour you some delicious Champagne!”

Peter’s first day in the new role is Tuesday, November 18.
