New ‘Tide-To-Table’ Fanny Bay Oyster Bar Primed For Launch At 762 Cambie Street

Following a friends-and-family service and a media function, Fanny Bay Oyster Bar is set to open its doors in the Stadium District tomorrow (Thursday). I checked in on progress at the 44 seater on Monday evening and it looked to be very nearly done (images below). The place sees a mix of high and low seating across a simple, sleekly designed, purpose-built room anchored by a long shucking bar, tanks of live shellfish, and retail shelves of merchandise and prepared foods. The “tide to table” concept comes to us from the Taylor family, the largest producer of shellfish in Canada. The company, which has been farming shellfish in our region since the 1890s, also owns and operates three eponymous oyster bars in the Seattle area and the seafood shop on Vancouver Island’s Buckley Bay ferry landing, so they’re very familiar with the milieu. One can sip (6 beers – including an oyster stout – and 10 local wines by the glass) and slurp the freshly shucked good stuff (or sup on many other things besides) and then shop for a variety of live oysters, clams, scallops, prawns, and so on to take home. The opening hours are lunch and dinner seven days a week from 11am until late, with weekend brunches kicking off at 10:30am. We wish them the best of luck!
