GM Position Opening at Gastown’s PiDGiN as Alain Canuel Prepares for Departure

Vancouver, BC | It is with a heavy heart that PiDGiN announces the departure of our General Manager Alain Canuel. Those close to the restaurant know that he has been an amazing presence on the floor and behind the scenes of PiDGiN and he will be sorely missed by both our team and our patrons

Working closely with Wesley Young, Brandon Grossutti, Jordan Pollard, and our amazing bar team over the last almost 4 years, he has achieved a delicate balance between the creativity of the kitchen, the thoughtful bar program, and our award winning wine and sake programs. His dedication to sake, cannot be understated, attaining WSET sake level 3, in his pursuit to make sake as at home in restaurants as wine.

Alain has been an admirable role model for our next generation front of house, through mentorship in wine and sake, and what it means to show the best that true hospitality has to offer. He has shown that being organized, hard working, and prepared can control costing pressures and grow a business in challenging times, all while understanding that our restaurant family and their well being is put ahead of profits. Running an independent restaurant in Vancouver can be both incredibly rewarding and challenging and, as a result of Alain’s leadership, we have been able to thrive amidst the proliferation of major chains, triple net leases, and an affordability crisis.

Alain will be moving on to his new role on November 2nd, so there will be lots of time to come by and wish him well on his new ventures. His hard work and dedication has made it so the whole team can rest assured.

Thank you Alain, you will be sorely missed.
