Celebrated ‘Hawksworth Restaurant’ Names Chris Stewart As New Chef De Cuisine

Vancouver, BC | Hawksworth Restaurant is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Stewart as Chef de Cuisine. Having worked in some of the world’s most well-known kitchens, Stewart brings with him an Eastern Canadian outlook and European flare. Stewart grew up in New Brunswick and the call of the ocean brought him out to Vancouver in 2016, following a five-year stint in the Okanagan as the Executive Chef at Mission Hill Family Estate.

“We are thrilled to have Stewart join the kitchen team at Hawksworth Restaurant,” says Chef David Hawksworth. “His extensive European experience is a great addition to the team, and his passion for showcasing the seasons through his dishes aligns perfectly with what our Hawksworth brand is all about.”

Stewart graduated from one of Canada’s most esteemed cooking schools, Prince Edward Island’s Holland College, in 2001. He then went on to hone his skills through stages at the Auberge du Pommier in Toronto, as well as Thomas Keller’s French Laundry and Bouchon Bistro in California. Returning home to Canada, he was appointed as the Chef de Cuisine at Rimrock Resort Hotel’s Five Diamond Eden Restaurant in Banff. Relocating to the UK in 2009, Stewart began his tenure with Heston Blumenthal at the renowned three Michelin starred Fat Duck in Bray. Named ‘Best Restaurant in the World’ for two consecutive years, Blumenthal’s restaurant – and his innovative pursuit of culinary perfection – provided Chris with a fantastic experience. A highlight during his time in Britain was his selection as a member of the culinary team that cooked for Queen Elizabeth II at her private birthday dinner at Windsor Castle.

“I am excited to join such a dedicated team at Hawksworth and I hope I can bring my unique energy to the restaurant’s front-line,” says Stewart. “It’s great to be part of a concept that emphasizes fresh, seasonal produce while demonstrating highly skilled techniques in the dishes.”

THE YORK ROOM | Overlooking the Vancouver Art Gallery plaza, the York Room is one the city’s most historic and exceptional event spaces. Taking its design inspiration from the 1920s, the dramatic chandeliers and ornate heritage features create an elegant private dining room perfect for intimate gatherings or an important executive dinner, lunch or breakfast meeting. The York Room can accommodate a booking capacity of 63 for a seated dinner, or 110 for a standing reception.

BEL PRIVATE DINING | David Hawksworth’s Bel Café, adjacent to Hawksworth Restaurant, offers an intimate and relaxed private dining space as an alternative to the historic York Room. Bel Private Dining can accommodate an intimate sit-down dinner for up to 20 guests or a stand-up reception for 40. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow for a stunning view of the Vancouver Art Gallery and rich dark wood paneling offers luxurious surroundings, complemented by custom designed wallpaper in a palette of soft colours that create a chic European feel.
