A Look Inside The New “Cartems Donuterie” Location At 534 West Pender St.

IMG_5843

Jordan Cash and Rags Narine of Cartems Donuterie are graduating up and out of the space that they’ve been using as their business incubator at Carrall and Hastings since February 2012 (leaseholder Sean Heather has new plans for the joint). The new spot at 534 West Pender is a big one at 2800 sqft, but most of that will be given over to commissary. This means that they’re also moving on from their production space at Woodlands Smokehouse. What’s left over will be an old brick-lined looker with fantastic lighting (I’ve seen a preview and it looks amazing) with 25 mostly communal seats divided between a banquette and rad wooden stump stools. And dig the triangular marquee out front; you don’t see those every day in Vancouver! They’ll be serving Matchstick Coffee (yay), milk on tap (for real), great teas, and up to 20 different types of donut 7 days a week. Moving day is set for some point in August, with the goal being to shut the one location and open the other in a 24 hour period. Shots of the original space below.
