Wonky Grid, The | Nickname | A moniker coined by local historian John Atkin to describe the series of dead-ends and weird streetways in the Cedar Cottage neighbourhood west of Knight Street. Early speculation in the area led to fragmented land ownership, which may have led to these strange by-way arrangements. The blocks south of King Edward are where you’ll find the most streets exhibiting this particularly odd off-the-grid design (eg. Elgin, Ross, Mohawk). Sidewalks, too, are equally inconsistent hereabouts (some blocks have them while others don’t), which contributes to the area’s general wonkiness. Learn more about The Wonky Grid here.
Usage | “I’m looking for a house party up on Elgin but the street doesn’t go through! What’s with this wonky grid?”
