Lumière | Restaurant/Legend | A critically acclaimed, high-end fine dining restaurant on Vancouver’s West Side. For (arguably) 9 of its 16 years (say, 1995 to 2004), it stood astride Canada’s restaurant scene like a colossus, not only helping to spark countless careers but also putting Vancouver on the culinary radar of the world. Co-founded by chef Rob Feenie, who helmed the kitchen from 1995 until 2007, when a public spat with business partner David Sidoo (see Sidoo) set up his departure to become the “Food Concept Architect” at the booming Cactus Club chain (where he remains today). Lumière struggled to stay relevant in the wake of Feenie’s exit, which coincided with the onset of the Great Recession. Sidoo’s new partner, international celebrity chef/restaurateur Daniel Boulud, closed the restaurant for good in 2011.
Usage | “I used to work at Lumière during its heyday.”
