Expo | Event | Perhaps no other event in Vancouver’s history was as polarizing as Expo 86. To some, it made Vancouver, while to others it destroyed it. It’s highly romanticized by both sides, and fits in with a long legacy of boosterism, that constant need to “put Vancouver on the map”). Either way, Expo’s legacy is undeniable. The Skytrain, BC Place, Canada Place, Science World, and the Plaza of Nations all arrived as a consequence of it. Oh, and mass evictions of residential hotel dwellers.
Usage: “Expo is the reason Vancouver is so expensive, but man did I enjoy it as a kid.”
