CCAP | Organisation | The Carnegie Community Action Project (CCAP) gained notoriety in 2013 when they were tied to a wave of anti-gentrification protests that centred around new businesses going into the DTES (specifically the Pidgin and Cuchillo restaurants). Despite the fact that the pickets were organized independently of CCAP, lazy and vindictive media made the connection anyway, which resulted in Vancity issuing a statement suggesting they might withdraw their financial support to the group. Defiant, the group continues to “work with DTES residents in speaking out on their own behalf for the changes they would like to see in their neighbourhood”.
