Pink Palace | architecture, design | A strikingly pink, 12-storey, 101 unit residential building on West Vancouver’s seawall (2222 Bellevue Avenue). Built in 1965, its real name is Villa Maris. Its design and colour were meant to evoke the flamboyant fantasy ‘resort’ lifestyle of Miami Beach. Though it was originally ridiculed by the community for its garish appearance, it has since become one of the most iconic properties on the entire North Shore. However, its character will not save it from demolition. In 2019, the owners announced plans to tear it down and replace it with new condos in 2026.
Usage: “The Pink Palace looks like Mussolini and Barbie had a baby made of cake and concrete.”

Greedy developers !!!! Shame on you.
Perhaps too short of a news report. Is this not a rental property? If they tear it down will developers be allowed to change to market condos or rentals – as I thought there was a restriction along the seawall to maintain rental units. And yes, very sad if it gets torn down – such an architectural icon!! The interiors are great too:

Pink palace is heritage where legendary Susan Jacks and iconic musician Linda Kidder lived. This shrine must be preserved at ALL costs to the city of West Vancouver. Do the right thing declare it a heritage site and keep the architecture integrally intact. Then look in the mirror of time and smile. Nancy Nash
