Good news for West Siders: Lebanese-themed Jamjar is opening another location, this time out at 6035 University Boulevard on UBC’s campus. They’re doing it a little different;y than the other two (The Drive, South Granville), and there’s a brand twist to it as well: the added suffix of “Canteen”.

Jamjar Canteen will be a counter service operation focused on offering fresh Lebanese food, served up fast. Owner Fadi Eid says we should expect “a simple menu comprising four menu items in addition to two sides and four salads.” He adds that prices will range from “$7 up to $12.”

Breakfast items will include things like a Middle Eastern frittata sandwich, sfouf muffins (a traditional turmeric cake), zaatar on flat bread (a Lebanese breakfast staple), and halloumi “stack pockets” (think halloumi, deep fried eggplant, tomatoes and pomegranate molasses). Afternoon and evenings will see the likes of shish tawouk (yogurt marinated chicken), flalafel, lamb sausages, Samkeh Harra (Pacific cod cooked in tahini with green peppers, onions, garlic and cilantro) and Makali, which is deep fried cauliflower tossed in pomegranate molasses. Bonus: it’ll be licensed.

Hours will see breakfast served from 7am to 10:45am and lunch/dinner from 11am to 10pm. Opening day is being set for September. Renderings by AK Interiors detailed below.
