The GOODS from The Juice Truck
Vancouver, BC | Originally grown in Mexico and Central America, avocados are technically a fruit (as they bear a large single seed or a pit) and are from the flowering plant family Luaraceae, which share a family line with cinnamon and camphor.
Avocados have been making headlines in Vancouver since their breakthrough appearance as Nelson the Seagull’s staple Avocado on Toast in 2011. They play especially well with others, pairing nicely with pretty much everything! We love slipping them to any and every smoothie, as they add the perfect consistency to any blend. You can find them in cocktails at L’Abattoir or on T-Shirts by the Vancouver clothing line, Love Your Mornings. Guacamole is now in the conversation of being a classic and Avocado on Toast is well on its way to joining that status. Avocados were even superstars at this year’s Super Bowl!
Here are 5 Reasons Avocados are Awesome:
1. They Lower Bad Cholesterol. Avocados are one of the only fruits packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fat (the kind of fat that’s good for you) that help boost good (HDL) cholesterol and lowers bad (LDL) cholesterol.
2. They’re Rich in Fibre. It’s all about that fibre game and avocados are winning every time. Packed with 10 grams of fibre per medium sized avocado; they help with that most important passage of food (with insoluble fibre) while helping give you that comfortably full feeling, avoiding any cravings for binge or over eating (soluble fibre).
3. They’re Great for your Heart and Brain. Back to the fats. Not all fats are created equal. Avocados are calorie dense, but they are nutrient dense calories. They’re also rich in omega-3’s. Avocados are considered one of the top foods for brain health. The folate in them helps prevent the formation of brain tangles that can lead to Alzheimer’s.
4. They will Support you’re Overall Health. Avocados are an overall superfood. They’re high in folic acid, which make them a great food for pregnant women (they’re the size of a baby in the womb at 16 weeks). They’re also packed with lutein (good for the eyes) and plant-based phytonutrient polyphonous and flavonoids (high in anti-inflammatory properties). Avocados are one of the few foods that contain the antioxidant glutathione, which supports the liver, nervous system and immune system.
5. They are Nutrient Packed. Avocados are a nutritional goldmine. In addition to the good monounsaturated fats mentioned above, avocados are blessed with plenty of health-boosting nutrients. Underneath that tough green skin lies over 14 minerals; protein, complete, with all 18 essential amino acids; soluble fiber, to trap excess cholesterol and send it out of the system; phytosterols; polyphenols; carotenoids; omega 3s; vitamins B-complex, C, E and K, to name a few.
All in all, we’re big fans of avocados. They’re like a best friend, making just about everything better!

The Story

Never underestimate the power of a trek through the Himalayas to change your life. We (Zach and Ryan, Juice Tenders) tossed around ideas of going into business together for years, but it was two weeks into a Himalayan trek, snowbound in a small Nepalese village when inspiration struck.
We noticed the locals drinking a vibrant, sweet smelling, orange-coloured drink. We discovered it was made from Seabuckthorn berries and it supplied these high altitude locals with most of their nutrients. It was this juice, so essential to their health, which changed our perspective on juice and sparked a new idea.
We spent the next year travelling the world, never going very long without seeking out the nearest juice stand. How many other nutritious, Seabuckthorn-like juices and juice blends were there out there that we could bring them to Canada? Turns out, quite a few. When we came home, The Juice Truck was born.
The Juice

Juice does some amazing things for your body and health. It’s also delicious, refreshing and hydrating, which is every bit as important. Especially the delicious part.
We make the most nutritionally complete juice possible. Our premium cold press makes juice that contains more essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes than juice made any other way. The cold press also preserves the natural flavours of the produce, which we feel makes the juice tastier.
We support local produce and organic farming practices as a way of extending our passion for healthy living beyond our cozy corner of Water and Abbott Streets. In the case of fruits and vegetables that just aren’t locally or seasonally available (mmmmm, pineapple), we take a long look at potential suppliers to verify their growing standards and practices measure up to our standards.
