The GOODS from The Acorn

Vancouver, BC | Canada’s preeminent vegetable-forward restaurant, The Acorn, is delighted to be taking up residence for five days in New York City’s Lower East Side, from February 3-7, 2016, at Exhibit C (88 Eldridge Street). Each night, starting at 7pm, The Acorn will be serving up a single-seating 5-course vegan tasting menu. The dinner will include an optional wine pairing by Kurtis Kolt, one of Vancouver’s top sommeliers. Kolt will be in attendance each night to detail the wines he has carefully chosen to represent BC’s vast award-winning wineries.

Upon opening its doors in the summer of 2012, The Acorn has been the recipient of national and regional awards for their groundbreaking use of locally sourced vegetables. Air Canada’s En Route Magazine named The Acorn one of the best new restaurants in Canada, an honor never bestowed upon a vegetarian restaurant before or since. Additionally, The Daily Meal and CNN have placed The Acorn in the top 5 vegetarian restaurants worldwide.

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, The Acorn is situated at the heart of Canada’s most lush and hospitable climate for a diverse range of whole grown foods. Founder / General Manager Shira Blustein says “our vision with The Acorn has always been to take advantage of what is so readily available yet so frequently ignored: fresh produce. The trick is that it can sometimes take real ingenuity to develop those ingredients into a truly remarkable dish. We’re just very fortunate to have such bountiful resources in BC.” The ambition behind bringing The Acorn – including chefs Robert Clarke and Brian Luptak and co-owners Blustein and husband Scott Lewis – to New York is to demonstrate some of the majesty found around their home. “The winter in BC yields some wonderful options in the way of produce. What it means is that we just have to be creative and think outside the box with what we serve up,” says Chef Robert Clarke when asked what the menu is to include. Clarke spent many years working all across Canada and was Chef de Cuisine at Sooke Harbour House, a pioneering restaurant in the sustainability movement.

The Acorn’s residency at Exhibit C will be a unique opportunity for locals to sample what’s happening on Canada’s West Coast – a culinary scene on the rise and of which The Acorn is a trail blazing force.
