Be Sure To Wear Clean Socks If You Drink Pauwel Kwak Beer At District Brasserie

The-District-1

The Goods From The District Brasserie

North Vancouver, BC | Think North Vancouver only has run-of-the-mill restaurants to offer? Think again. The District Brasserie isn’t your average dining experience, focusing on offering unique and authentic European fare as opposed to tired, been-there, done-that menu items commonly found elsewhere. Herewith, two must-try options at The District that you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

Pauwel Kwak | This is the original badass beer. Pauwel Kwak, a heavy special amber beer crafted by Brouwerij Bosteels in East Flanders, Belgium, originated in the 18th century. Hard to find in its own right, The District serves Pauwel Kwak in a rarely available, signature tapered glass with convex bottom set on a wooden stand. Legend holds that its namesake, the original Pauwel Kwak, invented the distinctive vessel to get around the Napoleonic Code. At the time, coach drivers were forbidden from drinking with passengers, so Kwak created a stand that could be affixed to the side of the carriage, allowing the driver to quench his thirst on the road.

Pro Tip: Wear clean socks. Given the rarity of Pauwel Kwak’s signature vessel, The District came up with its own unique twist to ensure its safe return: diners who order the brew must forfeit a shoe, which is strung from the ceiling, until the glassware makes its way back to the bar.

Thomas Haas Chocolate Soufflé | Hankering for a high-end dessert? The District has partnered with world-renowned chocolatier Thomas Haas to offer the only chocolate soufflé of its kind in the area. A cornerstone of French cuisine, the soufflé offers a stunning combination of delicacy and decadence and requires a high level of skill to make. We can’t think of a better way to cap off a European meal.

Few things in life are better than a cone of patats friet perfectly paired with a crisp Belgian lager. The District Brasserie has perfected the art of progressive yet refined Dutch-Belgian fare in an eclectic environment – on any given night, you’re apt to see the mayor, your hairdresser or a group of students recovering from a big exam. It’s all in a day’s work at The District.

Since opening in 2007, The District has become North Vancouver’s cult dining outpost. Getting people hooked on its signature menu items is the name of the game; with house favourites ranging from The Crab and Shrimp Cake to Gulf Island Mussels to weekend brunch (think Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, complete with handcrafted Caesar), there’s something fresh for everyone, every day of the week.

If you’re craving a satisfying European-inspired meal and a spot to get social, The District won’t disappoint. You bring the witty conversation, and the rest is on us.
