Strathcona Beer Company is stretching its reach, expanding beyond its namesake neighbourhood with a second location on the North Shore, which opened earlier this week, on Monday, September 23rd.
Strathcona North is located inside the Lonsdale Quay Market (123 Carrie Cates Court). Besides its very different neighbourhood and setting, what makes this new spot so distinct – and therefore well worth the trip across the Harbour, in our opinion – is its “culinary-driven” concept.

Although the OG location won our hearts over early with their solid pizza game, which levelled up to their beer game, we’re stoked to see what other sort of magic the Strathcona team can put out of the kitchen when they fully put their heads into it, utilizing locally butchered meats and BC-produced cheese, plus other ingredients culled from our province’s bounty. While the full menu won’t launch until winter (date TBA), we’re excited to try both the daytime comfort food menu — ideal for a quick bite before or after visiting the market or enjoying a walk along the waterfront — and the more upscale evening sharing menu. Even the beer at Strathcona North is getting special treatment, via the team’s ‘Beer Sommelier’, Elisa Zavarise, whose services (expert knowledge and pairing recommendations) can be enlisted upon request. Although beer is still the obvious choice here (don’t skip their Coastal Supreme West Coast IPA, available only from the North Shore location), local ciders, craft cocktails and wine will also enhance the restaurant-like experience.
Add to all of that an exceptionally pretty and airy room in emerald green and natural tones, fitted with booths, small and communal table seating and a rear bar, plus a sweet patio (steps from the water) that plays up its natural surroundings. It all begs the question: what doesn’t Strathcona North have going for it?
Naturally, Strathcona North will also be added to our list of neighbourhood breweries to hit up on our next North Van beer crawl(s), along with fellow North Shore-rs: Beva, Beere, Bridge, House of Funk, Streetcar, Wildeye, La Cerveceria Astilleros, and Shaketown… Its quayside address fits nicely into our itinerary as the first and/or final destination before hopping on the ferry back to Vancouver proper with a belly full of good suds and proper eats, to boot.
Stay tuned for more details about the Grand Opening and menu details via @strathconabeer. And see you on the other side (of Vancouver Harbour) soon!
