The GOODS from Ocean Wise
Vancouver, BC | The company of 50,000 sea creatures, including African penguins adorned in natural black-tie attire, sets the 9th annual Toast to the Coast fundraising event at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre apart from any other wine-tasting event in the city. This captivating event takes place on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Aquarium’s stylishly renovated space.
Presented by CIBC, Toast to the Coast features a cast of fascinating aquatic characters who bubble with energy, ensuring that guests are never at a loss for topics of conversation. Proceeds from the event support aquatic conservation, research and education programs, including the Aquarium’s hugely successful national sustainable seafood program, Ocean Wise™, among other programs. The wine-tasting soiree is a hit with young professionals, businesses and organizations who appreciate the opportunity to frolic for a worthy cause.
Guests enjoy wines from B.C.’s top wineries and nibble on canapés prepared by illustrious Ocean Wise restaurants; this year, there will also be a sustainable oyster bar. Blasted Church, Fort Berens Estate, Upper Bench Estate Winery, Howling Bluff Estate, Tinhorn Creek and Quails’ Gate (compliments of Appellation Wine Marketing) will supply some of the evening’s featured wines. Cocktails starring Russian Standard Vodka and imports from Peacock and Martin will also be on offer.
Esteemed Ocean Wise restaurants participating this year include Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar, CinCin Ristorante + Bar, Homer Street Café, Fable Kitchen, The Fish Counter, Hapa Izakaya and Earls Kitchen + Bar. The Dairy Farmers of Canada will contribute irresistible savouries, too, as will Vancouver Aquarium Catering. ChocolaTas, Archimallows, Bella Gelateria and Petite Puf will tantalize with their sweets.
One of the evening’s highlights is always the silent auction, which allows guests to bid on aquatic experiences, escapes from the city, pampering options, wine-and-dine outings, unique items and art. At 9:30 p.m., the after-party dancing begins; it features Side One, whose repertoire includes everything from Frank Sinatra’s hits to tunes by Macklemore.
Once again, The Vancouver Trolley Company will run trolleys every 15 minutes between Waterfront Station and Vancouver Aquarium, starting at 7:30 p.m. with the last trolley leaving the Aquarium at 12:45 a.m. Watch for the vintage-looking Vancouver Trolley and climb aboard.
Please note that this is a 19-plus event. Individual tickets are $125 or you may purchase a Social Package of 10 tickets for $1,200. To avoid disappointment, purchase your tickets today at www.vanaqua.org/tttc.
